It's Important That You Read This Before Lighting a Candle

  • Prior to burning a new or used candle, you always want to make sure that the wick has been trimmed to at least  ¼ of an inch. To ensure that you can enjoy your Bliss Whiffs candle as soon as possible, we trim the wick down as part of our quality control process. This process prevents uneven burning, dripping and flaring once the candle is lit. Popping, smoking, and soot are also caused by untrimmed wicks. Candles that aren't trimmed look dirty due to soot and debris. Upon each subsequent burn, you will want to trim the wick down to this size to prevent these issues. It is best to trim wicks only after candles have cooled to eliminate debris from mixing into the wax.
  • Do not expose the candle to drafts, air currents, fans or vents. As a result, your candle will burn more evenly, soot less, drip less, and prevent uneven or rapid burning. Your candle's quality and experience will be maximized if you avoid burning it in such environments.

  • Find a surface that is suitable for burning. A level, heat-safe, draft-free surface that is not reachable by pets, children or placed near flammable material is ideal for safety precautions. A candle should never be burned on or near anything that could catch fire. Keep burning candles away from books, curtains, drapery, furniture, bedding, carpet, paper, flammable decorations, etc.

  • If your candle's flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly, extinguish it. Be sure that the candle has cooled, the wick has been trimmed appropriately, and that the room where you are burning is not drafty before re-lighting.

  • Never burn a candle all the way down. We know- it’s easy to forget and hard to resist. But the vessel should never be left with less than ¼ of an inch of wax when burning because of its risk of safety. Glass jars and vessels that become too hot can break or shatter, which can result in a fire and other damages. Too long of a burn can also cause the wick to mushroom, move or slant towards the glass. A flaming wick that approaches the vessel wall should be extinguished, allowed to cool, and straightened. This will prevent risk of the vessel cracking during future burns.

  • Never let a candle burn while sleeping or left unattended. Be sure to extinguish all candles before leaving the room or going to bed.

  • Burning candles should never be touched or moved. When the wax is hot and liquified, do not move the container.

  • You should burn your candle for at least 2-4 hours to ensure a full melting pool. Burning for less time can cause the candle to tunnel, which leaves a build-up of wax around the vessel wall.
  • The best way to prevent soot and smoke is to keep your wicks trimmed and your candles free of debris. Nevertheless, dealing with fire can often cause the glass to be stained by soot. To restore its clean appearance, we recommend rubbing down the inside of the vessel with a paper towel and coconut oil. Be sure to wipe away any excess coconut oil prior to re-lighting.
